life as a “college student”

I decided to attend Kirkwood Community College because they have been known as the school that has an “easy transition” to almost any four year university. its literally 15 minutes from my house. I take the easy route by taking the interstate, listening to the Bobby Bones show and cruising at an easy 60 mph while slowing down to 55 while going under the speed-cameras.

i’m in a predicament because i applied for the leaders for tomorrow scholarship, worth $3,000 and received it for this school year, wishing i took the ACT for the fourth time in order to get a point higher, a 25, in order to basically get a “free ride” presidential scholarship worth $5,000. ugh. so i came to Kirkwood because of their smooth transition and scholarships.

so far this year, everything has came fairly easy. during “welcome week” i attended almost every event in order to meet people. when mason (bf of 2.3 years) had class on that wednesday night, i asked my friend Allie to join me at the rec center for the activity-place that night. it was a great night…if i was single? i don’t know i’m really not good at being “friendly” without feeling the need to establish my intentions with every single guy that i meet. seriously! i’m too nice and it sucks. that night was awesome though because i played almost 4 hours straight of sand volleyball which was thrilling and at the end of the night they had a drawing for some stuff, somebody didn’t show up, they drew again, and i won the newest FitBit. Allie and I met this guy named Matt that night, who found us in the cafe the next day and the next day. we were new people to this new school, we wanted to be as friendly and open-feeling as possible, right? holy moly because he got weird. just he way he talked and looked at me, made me feel so uncomfortable and i can honestly say that i haven’t seen him since the third week of school. its not that I’m a mean or “judgy” person, its just that when people don’t try to try and make other friends and complain that we are his only friends everyday, hello! you’re getting annoying.

i’m living at home. because it’s “cheaper.” yes, cheaper money-wise but cheaper socially-wise? not really! i haven’t went to any parties or made any friends enough to have them to ask me to come over to their place and hangout even. i shouldn’t be complaining, though, because sometimes i don’t particularly come off as an “open” person, for example my comp class, monday, wednesday and friday at 8 am, the first day i found a girl who looked normal and dressed nice and looked prepared for class like i usually am about 98% of the time. her name was Audrey and told me all about her upcoming trip to Disney with her family, and i told her how jealous i was and yada yada yada. one of those first weeks she skipped on a wednesday and on the friday i asked her where she was. she said: “i was too tired i couldn’t get out of bed” she could’ve just slid her fingers down a chalkboard because that is my number one turn off. people who don’t commit, don’t give 95-110% of their time to what is really needed is completely pathetic. you’re paying for school, probably not on a scholarship so out of your parent’s sweet pockets, and not going on the second day? auuugh! I haven’t really talked to her since, our “relationship” never really became anything when she skipped more often and often, once asking for the quotes she missed and me just showing her my notebook, not giving it to her, i think that also pissed her off.

I am in student ambassadors, which is something to help me feel completely involved at Kirkwood. yeah, no everyone already like had their lil-groupies when i got there. i met this girl named Madi, total cutie pie with a short brown curly head of hair that i am ultimately jealous of. yeah, but she parties like 24/7 and don’t get me wrong, i’d love to but more like 24/2 on the weekend because hello, schoolwork? I’m nervous for what the rest of the year will hold, but i know i just gotta keep breathing and taking one day at a time. its going to SUCK. Allie comes in clutch because, thankful for me, i told her to apply for student ambassadors and she got accepted! little did i know she’d become best friends with this one girl and therefore has turned completely fake on me. hi, what did i do to deserve this? last week i was trying to tell her about my totally shitty day and i was going to talk to nick and nick (ambassador leaders) about what i should do about my classes for next semester and she had to come you know, but totally didn’t care about anything else i said.

so i currently have no friends. right? mason, but he doesn’t really count because he’s not a girl, plain and simple. i want girl friends, but i’m not good at all with keeping them. i loose trust to them once they talk to Mason (ahem Allie) just because i guess i am that way. there is this girl named Loren i met at the scholarship banquet who is also in my math class. i literally talked to her the other day and somehow it came up how we both were 4.00 gpa students in high school and how its so disappointing when we get our tests back a lower grade than expecting. we are both hard workers and want to try in the school-work life. what! i need to get her digits, but not seem too interested because i don’t want to invite myself into her life, that would be bad.

so finally to get to my point, i’m dreading but trying to decide weather to move out of my parents’ house or not, would 250$ a month be worth the sociality i would gain of it? i would love it because i wouldn’t have to put up with telling my mom about where i am every night or make my dad feel bad when i don’t come home for dinner. i can tell you i am 95% sure i would not be home-sick whatsoever, but also idk if i’d really like to share a kitchen and dining room with 3 girls, strangers, people who may/may not like me?! shit. i’m nervous but i have lost complete faith that i will ever make friends and if i were to loose mason, really not have anyone to talk to. i need somebody.

clean things

you set aside time to clean your house or apartment at least once or twice a week right? I mean, especially if you are hosting a party or just having friends over, you would prefer to have a clean area where they can go, right? Because who doesn’t like to walk into a clean house? Thanks to Pinterest, there are tons of ways you can clean the weird little things, that you never would have thought of!

One of the things I tried lately was cleaning my tub. First, I was on Pinterest, then I saw the pin of how to really make your tub look sparkly clean! I was nervous to try it at first because it didn’t look like one of the stereotypical “professional” type of pins. Anyway, I tried it, all I used was 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1/2 cup original blue dawn dish soap, and 4T baking soda. In the link it said to use a spray bottle, but I ignored it and used a big bowl instead; then rubbing down the tub with the paste, and finally letting it sit for a good two hours. After, I had to scrub to get it off with excess water, but it actually worked and I could really see the difference!

If you happen to have those old, vintage suitcases, and they smell like old-ness, all you have to do is add Kitty Litter and let it sit for awhile according to Apartment Therapy. This concept seems pretty legit, and i will for sure be using this!

What happens when you spill nail polish all over your carpet? Almost every little girl ends up doing that at least one time during their life! Here’s a tip from an excited mom: all she did was apply Barbasol, let it sit for a bit, then applied tons of Acetone. From the pictures the carpet looks brand new!

Under the TecheBlog, here are some miscellaneous little different ways you have never thought of trying to use for cleaning! for example, apparently Coke works for cleaning toilets, use lemons to remove water stains on the stainless steel in your shower, clean screens with coffee filters, and even use coarse salt to clean cast iron. you never know, it might just work!

To sum things all up, here is 17 Lazy Girl Cleaning Hacks, what super good ideas they have! such as wearing “swiffer socks” around the house instead of dusting, spray furniture polish on anything to make it shiny, keep cleaning liquid on the bottom of the toilet brush pan, and more! there are tons of different ways to help you clean in a more fun way, as well as a cheap and logical way too!

gifts to give

there are so many reasons to give gifts. from saying “i’m sorry”, to mothers day and fathers day, to gift basket fundraisers, to gift baskets for waiting people at the hospital, to birthday gifts, and neighbor and housewarming gifts. of course there is always the gift of spending time with the special someone/people, and making them homemade cards that simply mean you are thinking of them and the fact that you took time out of your day to make them something, really can say something to someone about how much you care.

here are 65 ways to say i’m sorry, to show your hubby love and to truly apologize. these are cute ways to make your hubby end up smiling, and that they’ll know you love them.

50 Ideas for Mother’s day is super cute, to “nonchalantly” give to your hubby to have your kids make for you, or just have your kids make for their grandmas/aunts, or something that you can give to them too. for Mother’s day or Father’s day Your Child’s Drawing on Keychain would be super unique!

for those waiting at the hospital, this picture can give you some ideas to provide if you are willing to, just so it helps them relax if it is a time of struggle, and it will let them know that you care and are willing to help in this time of need.

Cheap Neighbor Gifts for Christmas, (or anytime of the year) will let your neighbors know that you care for them too! who knows, maybe you will get something in return! 😉

A Pocket Change Birthday Gift is thoughtful for a friend who doesn’t expect anything from you, or a cousin, or co worker. it is super customizable as well!

This one is a very basic How to make Gift Baskets, and covers Bridal Showers, Gift Wraps, For her, Holiday Gifts, and others.

Finally, if you or your child is involved with making a ‘fundraiser basket’ for a group or his/her class at school, here are some Theme Gift Ideas, which will help the process go smoother if you know what you’re shopping for!

bathroom decor

bathroom decor i would have to say is almost essential if you are known for entertaining, or hosting events. it is the place that when people sit down and “do their business” they will be more “in love with you” if you give them something to look at, and give them something for you to talk about with them (especially if you don’t know them that well, and it’s kind of awkward!). clean and crisp bathrooms are in style today. clean makes sense because bathrooms are where you go to get clean. including glass showers, porcelain sinks along with stainless steel appliances (not the toilet) to give it a more “glossy touch.” dont forget the lighting: there are tons of different ways you can do that. it all depends on how much money you want to spend, as well as if you want it to go with the rest of your house, or have a unique personality of it’s own. all you have to do is add color, warmth, and coziness, along with the clean and crisp aspect of it all. i have gathered tons of different organizational ideas, all from pinterest, and inspiration for you if you are thinking about upgrading or remodeling your bathroom. so today i have categorized all the links into Storage Ideas, Painting/Wall Ideas, and Inspiration/Tips Ideas:

Storage ideas come in all shapes and sizes, depending what you can find and how much you are willing to spend, also include the fact of how big your bathroom size is. if you happen to have a fairly large bathroom, upcycling an old Armoire, you found at the dump would be perfect! paint it the color that ties in with your room, and add baskets if you want to ‘hide’ things such as hair ties or brushes. a Ladder Shelf is also nice if you have just the right amount of space, you can either go out and buy one or make it yourself to suit the space you want to take up. Finally i have 27 Easy Storage Ideas for Small Spaces: these ideas will help you not only in your bathroom, but the rest of the house too! I am going to include these 33 Clever Ways to Organize all the Small Things, because these things that they include are essential to every girl, and you can also keep them in the bathroom too.

Painting/Wall Ideas are critical because every bathroom has walls! 7 Unexpected Color Splashes for Bathrooms is super cool and will give you inspiration to either have your bathroom be bright and cheery or send you into the realm of ‘lets go grey and classy, so i can change the accent color to whatever i want’ mood. also, to add some texture and to have your toilet guests be able to have something to look at, consider the Fence Board Planked Wall, which seems to be pretty easy and cheap according to the website!

Finally here are the Inspiration/Tips Ideas: here is a look at Capree Kimball’s Bathroom Makeover, just a little before and after look, which states the fact that it is okay if you dont have a lot of stuff in your bathroom if it’s small,  but go ahead and add color to make it have a statement! finally here are some Bathroom Design Ideas, some that include little details you may not have thought about yet!

art gone good

i try to take an art class at least 2/3 of the terms every school year. i find it relaxing and i am able to really concentrate and create new things that i didn’t think i would ever be able to think of. plus, i would love to take time out of my own day, besides school time, to enjoy and develop my own ideas. however it does require spending money and stuff like that, and that isn’t something i have room for, sadly. (also because i am so busy) during school i have taken Computer Graphics, which was really fun, i got to make my own little video clip, of “Mario”- him running across the screen and jumping up on one of the “?” boxes. super cool i have to say. Web Design was when i created my own website, and learned the concept of coding and stuff to that extent; i really didnt care as much for that class. Design in Art, we got to do a bunch of stuff, like paint and design some cool stuff, the best thing i came out with was when we had to bring in canvas, make our own paint, and then take a paint-pen and draw three-five things then out line them until they reach the edge of the canvas. in Drawing we literally drew, and shaded things, we also did contouring, which was really cool. This picture was in an art show:

Photography was really cool as well: i was privileged to be apart of the last class to use the “old fashioned” cameras, and develop film in a dark room, and use my uncles really old camera! this was a picture of my sisters: the picture i used for the “compare” subject: FullSizeRender (4)

this term i took painting. i didn’t really know what to expect because i feel like one could either be super good at it or just suck at it. however, by my teacher and fellow classmates, they are saying that i am really good.

(the shoes are done by knife painting)

they even call me “Roberta Ross” when we are doing the “Bob Ross” painting: (this is unfinished!)

anyway, i guess that i can agree that i have some artistic abilities, (from my dad, since he is a graphic artist and a good painter, drawer, and designer as well) and hopefully somewhere along the line i can apply these to my hobby or work life.

home decor: shelving

shelving adds detail and hangs items, that you want to show off, or have off the ground, all while you still stay organized. in this day in age, homes are decorated based on the style of the age. but it also depends what the theme of your room/house is. i love rustic, and the modern types of shelving. from pinterest, i have found 9 different types of shelving, for inside. Shelves with Leather Straps, is really cute, quick, and cheap DIY project. These are very different-looking and im sure when you have guests over, they will catch their attention and you will get some good compliments, (and slide in a white lie: oh yeah i bought those for like $80 and they were custom made for me so you cant buy them anywhere else) 😉 24 Amazing Uses for Old Pallets is what you could neatly display shoes, purses, and jackets i’m sure that you could easily find something like this somewhere online instead of making this, but it’s up to you and how you want to make this! DIY Industrial Shelving is adorable! and on this site it gives you directions on how to make this and hang it etc! this would be perfect for a spare bedroom or office, to display books or photo books. Vintage Crate Boot Racks are super cool for a mud room if you constantly have people walking through. a rustic and unique feel to the atmosphere. even though this Window Shelf site is probably in spanish, the picture, you can get a lot of inspiration from! if you have a local Goodwill or the dump that holds things and lets you go ‘hunting’ this would be a good idea to pick up! with these windows there are a lot of things you could do with them! Dining Room Floating Shelves are pretty cute too- a nice way to display your wine glasses and other utensils. Industrial Piping Shelves would be cool in the bathroom, and maybe you could even add in some stainless steel accents, maybe even a toilet! Storage Solutions All Around the House is really nice because it gives you a great amount of ideas for all of the little things you could organize and gives you inspiration to things you never thought could be stored that way! Here is 10 Ways to Repurpose Old Pallets, (i know if feel like i talk about these a lot) but they are really helpful and in style for ways to display your stuff! Hopefully these items help you with your ideas and inspirations for your own home!

becoming a senior

since this is the end of my junior year, and the end of the senior’s year, i’m getting kind of anxious about when i graduate! this past month has been a rough one, i actually took the ACT yesterday, the big test to get into most colleges. i was tested over English, (the basic punctuation and sentence structure ideas you have to know to, obviously, get into college) Math (algebra, geometry, algebra 2, trigonometry) Reading (literally, reading), and Science (graphs, experiments, and charts). to prepare for this, i attended a 6 hour ZAPs seminar, which, because it was my first time testing, we went over and took small portions of each test, and received tips and tricks on how to “ZAP” answers that we didn’t know. that class was very helpful! one month later, after (some) studying, i was so nervous for the ACT in general, it came up faster than i expected it to! when i got there, and when i left, the feeling in my stomach was about the same (sick, pukey, goss, yeah…etc.), because i didn’t know if i was going to do good or not! anyway, now that that’s over, hopefully i get a good result and then i can attend a good college with receiving some good scholarships! if you have kids that are in middle school or just starting high school, from my experience, what i would say is definately get the required classes out of the way, squeeze in some electives (like art or wood tech) and some AP classes. then he/she will be prepared effectively for the type of work college will give.

now this is the stuff i am really looking forward to: senior pictures, vacation, and party! (im not looking forward to the graduation part-which will take like 4 hours, but i will be for my medals!) anyway, senior pictures, are super hard to decide for when to have it, during summer, fall, or winter! summer has it’s perks, because you could go to the lakes or in the bright green grass, fall- the leaves and the fields as well as the dark colors, winter-bright snow and red lipstick 😉 senior vacations will be super fun! this last march there were 15 seniors and their families who went to mexico! (that would be too much for me!) but my friends and i want to go somewhere like florida- to the ocean!! finally the senior party, it all depends where you want it, then from there, make picture boards, have a color scheme, and make it all about me! i’m so excited!!
